Wanjiru Kirima is an expert on Environmental, Governance and Social Strategies (“ESG”). She has worked with African Governments, Regulators, and Industry Bodies as well Global and Africa Pension Funds over the past 20 years.
Ms. Kirima is the Chairperson of the Debswana Pension Fund Investment Committee, a Committee member of the Code for Responsible Investments for South Africa (CRISA), a Committee Member to ASISA’s Responsible Returns and GAPS Committees, a Committee member of the Southern African Pensions Investment Forum (SAPFIF), and a Founding and Steering Committee member of the Africa Sustainability Investment Forum (AfricaSIF).
Ms. Kirima is the past Chairperson of the Principal Officer’s Association (POA), a unique Southern African voluntary association which represents Principal Executive Officers (a statutory executive position recognized by Pension Fund law). She is also the past Chairperson of Retirement Benefits Authority in Kenya, the past Chairperson of the joint IFC/POA committee that aims to provide pension funds in Southern Africa with an implementation tool for sustainable investing, a past Committee member of the Integrated Reporting Committee South Africa (IRC), the Committee responsible for integrating sustainable investments for listed Companies in South Africa, and the past Chairperson of the Southern Africa Committee “Sustainable Returns,” which has the objective to provide a practical tool-kit for Pension Funds to integrate sustainable investment principles.
Her previous experience also includes Group Principal Officer at FirstRand Bank Limited, reporting to the CFO of FirstRand, accountable for Pension and Risk Benefits across the Group in countries including South Africa, Botswana, Namibia, Zambia, Tanzania, India, Nigeria, Kenya, Lesotho, and Swaziland. At Shell Central Finance (UK), as the Global Trustee Support manager she was accountable for all Trustee activities provided to Shell Funds across the world.
Ms. Kirima has a Bachelor of Arts, Business Administration and Economics, an Associate Membership (1992) of The UK Society of Investment Professionals and a Diploma in Management Certificate from Henley Management College.
