Dr. Nkosana Moyo is the Executive Chairman of the Mandela Institute for Development Studies and the former Chief Operations Officer and Vice President of the African Development Bank Group (AfDB).
Dr. Moyo was a Partner of Actis Africa Fund I and Actis Africa Fund II. He served as the Managing Partner and Senior Advisor of Africa at Actis Capital LLP. He joined Actis in January 2004 and was responsible for providing business leadership to the regional fund team, formulation of business strategy for the region, deal origination, fund raising, and investor relationship management. Dr. Moyo has also served at the Standard Chartered Bank, TA Holdings, the World Bank and Batanai Capital Finance, a company he founded in 1997. Prior to joining Actis, Dr. Moyo was with the International Finance Corporation in Washington, DC. He also served as Zimbabwe’s Minister for Industry and International Trade until 2001. He has worked in senior positions in Africa, Europe, as well as the United States of America.
Dr. Moyo served as the Chairman for Commercial Bank of Rwanda and DFCU Bank Group in Uganda. He served on the Africa Regional Advisory Boards of Unilever and The London Business School. Dr. Moyo serves as Non-Executive Director of South African Airways and the Investment Climate Facility for Africa. He served as Non-Executive Director of Diamond Bank Plc from July 17, 2007 to September 24, 2009.
He served as Non-Executive Director of Kumba Iron Ore Ltd. until January 2010. He served as a Director of UAC of Nigeria Plc. He is a World Economic Forum Global Leader of Tomorrow (GLT), and an Eisenhower Fellow. Dr. Moyo has a PhD in Physics from Imperial College and an M.B.A. from Cranfield School of Management.
